The Atkinson story cuts right. I ran 54 commits on a custom kanban board for my AI agent over 2 months. Worked. Then I replaced the whole thing in 21 commits by switching to an open-source Rails board. The original system had a 3,700-line Python API client wired into 50+ automation scripts. Loved building it. Still the wrong call.

More code isn't more product. The custom build made sense at version 1. Version 20 is where it quietly starts costing everything, in maintenance, brittleness, drag on every change after. Wrote about the pivot here: https://thoughts.jock.pl/p/wizboard-fizzy-ai-agent-interface-pivot-2026
